Mercedes 170 B Hotrod

This time we have something special on offer again, a Mercedes 170B as a hotrod. We don’t see that every day. Originating from 1952, this Mercedes was the subject of an extensive restoration and thorough rebuilding of the engine and technology in the 1980s.

The roof was chopped, the fenders widened, and the original engine was replaced by a Rover V8, coupled to an automatic gearbox.

Driving this hotrod is a special experience, there is no chance of refueling undisturbed because everyone wants to know everything about it. The car has a high fun factor! The V8 produces a nice deep rumble and shifting, braking and steering are surprisingly easy.

The car was built by Dirk Vergauwe and Hugo Vervliet, the latter at the time in the role of chairman of the Belgian Streetcruisers Association and therefore a well-known appearance in the world of hot rods and custom cars. The choice for the Mercedes is surprising because building a hotrod like this was often done with an American car as a basis. The car comes with an extensive file with photos of the restoration and conversion, as well as many articles and magazines in which this car has been exhibited.
