Dodge Viper RT/10
In 1988, Bob Lutz (then president of Dodge) decided it was time for a modern version of the ultimate race car, the Cobra! He approached Caroll Shelby, the legendary Cobra developer and racer. Together they developed the chassis and body, and asked Lamborghini for help with the engine. Lamborghini was able to cast the aluminum V10 block, and thus the ultimate road racing car was born, which they aptly named Viper. Named after the illustrious Cobra.
In 1992, the first Viper RT/10 finally came onto the market, a true hardcore race car. Designed as a convertible, with no ABS, no power brakes, no side windows, no door locks, it was a true βpurpose-builtβ race car. This first generation was not for the faint-hearted, with lots of power and no aids. Unfortunately, many of these first-generation Vipers, which were made from 1992 to 1995, have been destroyed. It wasn’t until 1997 that an alternative came along in the form of the Viper GTS. This model had a better and safer chassis with ABS and all the aids, as well as a new engine. Both were also available in the RT/10.
The Viper we are offering here is a so-called intermediate model, the 1.5 series. This makes it rare and popular with collectors. Only made in 1996 with the original raw RT/10 engine and the new GTS chassis. Only 231 of this model were made in black, and no more than three of these had a brown interior. Talk about rare! The rims on this Viper are original Viper Race rims from an ACR Viper and were specially made to fit this street car. Of course, the original rims are also included. In this color scheme, it is a beautiful sight! Rugged yet chic. It has a fabric roof, side windows, and the original tonneau cover, as well as a complete set of maintenance and instruction manuals. It also comes with the original brochure and a file with history and invoices of recent maintenance. For enthusiasts and collectors, this is an opportunity to own a beautiful example of an iconic US muscle car.
